Bug List

1) The Casey's parking lot in Vero Beach is way too small compared to the popularity of the restaurant.
Why?: Valuable space next to the restaurant isn't put to use and would greatly increase the parking availability.

2) Getting gift cards to restaurants/stores but never having them with me when I need them.
Why?: Gift cards are bulky and cumbersome when in your wallet, and you only need them for a specific place.

3) Many phones die often and in times when communication is essential.
Why?: Phone charge (especially iPhone) is weak compared to other smartphones.

4) The bait I catch at the beach to fish dies too quickly.
Why?: The water gets too hot and there isn't enough oxygen.

5) I burn my hands when turning on the hot water.
Why?: There's no temperature gauge to see how hot it is.

6) Spam emails clog my storage.
Why?: I don't have a filter that disables spam from my mailbox.

7) Commercials that are annoying or don't apply to my demographic.
Why?: I can't choose which commercials I see.

8) On the boat at night my spotlight loses charge quickly.
Why?: There isn't a charger on the boat that can charge a spotlight.

9) Getting razor bumps on my neck after shaving.
Why?: My skin gets irritated easily.

10) My room in Gainesville gets extremely dusty very easily.
Why?: Old, wooden houses get dusty easily.

11) My car gets trashy easily.
Why?: I don't have a good place to put trash.

12) My phone never gets service when I'm home.
Why?: The coverage doesn't reach to my house.

13) I get my dog's hair on my clothes and furniture.
Why?: Labradors shed a lot.

14) I can't type on my touch screen when I have gloves on.
Why?: The touch screen reacts to your naked touch.

15) My computer battery dies too quickly.
Why?: The battery's quality diminishes quickly.

16) Nature Valley bars crumble way too easily.
Why?: Honestly I don't know why.

17) Too many people don't know how to change a tire.
Why?: It's not regularly taught anymore.

18) My allergies are terrible during pollen season.
Why?: My immune system doesn't react well to pollen.

19) The touch-ID on iPhones sometimes glitches (without a glove on).
Why?: The technology isn't 100% accurate.

20) My contacts fall out when I open my eyes under water.
Why?: Contacts aren't very resistant to water.

Doing this exercise was surprisingly difficult for me. The first few 'bugs' were easy to think of, but the remaining took some hard thought and time. I found that as I got used to thinking of 'bugs' in my life, more ideas came more easily. This exercise showed me that there are tons of more 'bugs' that I haven't thought of yet, but now that I am thinking in this manner I'll be able to figure out these other bugs.

  1. Anderson, from reading your bugs I have to agree that electronics in general don't seem to be built up to par, at least as advertised. I personally believe that companies are in such a hurry to a release a newer version of each item that they lack attention to detail. In regards to number 8, have you ever tried gel aftershave? I have to use aftershave, specially the gel, otherwise I have the same problem as you. I agree , this assignment was more difficult than I thought it would be. Things are constantly bugging me, the hard part was making a conscience effort to actually pinpoint what it was.

  2. Anderson,

I also found this assignment hard to complete. The first few weren't hard, but they get harder to think of as you go. I found it hard to think of bugs because I tend to not let the negative stuff in life bother me. I found myself in a worse mood when I finished then when I started. I agreed with some of your bugs, like when the touch ID doesn't work. That's so frustrating! Great job!

  3. Good morning Anderson,
My first thought goes to your number 7 on your bug list. I never thought about being able to pick the commercials I see on television based on my interests and preferences. That would be pretty cool if we could and the economy would probably profit very much so from only advertising what we are interested in because we would buy more things. I also think it is interesting that we had to sit down and actually think of a list of items or problems with our daily lives that bothered us. Good post!

  4. What's up Anderson,
I liked all your bugs, but I could relate to 16 and 18 the best. I hate it when I'm eating a Nature Valley bar and the crumbs literally get everywhere. I also know how bad it is to be in Florida and have allergies. I agree that doing the bug list was definitely something that turned out more challenging than I first considered. I hope that through this exercise, you're able to not only see more bugs, but also go further and be able to come up with possible solutions. Thanks for sharing!
